![]() I still slightly prefer a "real" laptop because it takes up a bit less space, most of them have better battery life than the Surface, and one of Apple's many iPads is probably better if you plan to primarily use a device in tablet mode. ![]() ![]() The Surface Pro 9 doesn't change a whole lot about the Surface equation. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy having a good, regularly updated, touch-friendly version of the Kindle app on Windows tablets after a decade. The main problem with it remains Amazon's second-rate Android app store, which offers access to just a fraction of the apps that Google Play does. The Windows Subsystem for Android has also come a long way since the Surface Pro 8 was released. When you drag a window around with your finger, pulling the window up to the top-center of the screen shows you a bunch of Snap Layouts options for quickly organizing all of your windows (you'll also see this on non-touch devices when you move a window with your mouse). Swiping in from the left will show you the widgets menu, and swiping in from the right pulls up notifications. ![]() The 22H2 update introduced new edge swipes for the screen: swipe up from the bottom-center or bottom-left to see the Start menu, or from the bottom-right of the screen to see the Quick Actions menu. These should be the same for any Surface tablet capable of running Windows 11 (officially, 2018's Surface Pro 6 and newer, though unsupported installations should be relatively easy on older models, too). Though not exclusive to the Surface Pro 9, it's worth calling out a couple of additions to Windows that make the OS work a bit better for tablets.
